ASSESSMENT AND SUPPORT

Lunchtime practice and support sessions

Each week in SHSG English is either Knowledge Week, Skills Week or Enrichment Week — plus, occasionally, Rest Week when everyone can have a rest. In each of these weeks (besides Rest Week), we will be running lunchtime sessions in which you can get some extra help, or earn extra rewards if you’re already doing well. For more details, see below. And check the main notice board in the English corridor for the specific times, places and days each week.

KNOWLEDGE WEEK

IMPORTANT NOTE: For the one-off Enrichment Task set for Years 9 and 10 as homework, you will be sent a particular day and time to come to show off your work. It should only take 15 minutes or so. Look to Satchel One for information. This task will not form part of the standard Enrichment Week programme and you will not be set a task like this to do again. If you have done additional Enrichment work (e.g. more than just the task set), please come to the day on the noticeboard in Enrichment Week to get your rewards.

Skills Week

In Skills Week each year group has a different Skills Day on which we will run skills-based workshops. You’ll get a quick refresher on how to do each skill and then you’ll be able to complete Bonus Skill Checks on the two key skills from the previous assessment window.

  • Retry skills you’ve struggled with and regain your lost Skill Check Streak

  • Practise skills you’re starting to master to earn more Skill Levels and get closer to mastery

  • Flex your skill mastery and earn 3 extra Skill Levels for each Bonus Skill Check

Earn between 1 and 3 extra Skill Levels for each skill, and regain your lost Skill Check Streak by getting an = or a + in the corresponding Bonus Skill Check.

Knowledge Week

In Knowledge Week each year group has a different Knowledge Day on which you can complete a Bonus Knowledge Check quiz on the terms from the previous assessment window.

  • Have another go — revise the terms and try again

  • Put your knowledge to the test — practise the same terms again but with new questions

Earn between 1 and 3 extra Knowledge Levels, depending on how will you do in the Bonus Knowledge Check quiz.

Enrichment Week

This is for students in Year 9 and Year 10 only. In Enrichment Week you can come along to the Enrichment Day lunchtime session and show off all the super-curricular enrichment work you’ve been doing.

  • Earn Enrichment Levels for researching important literature

  • Earn Enrichment Levels for reading good books

  • Earn Enrichment Levels by expressing yourself creatively through stories, poems and more

There’s a lot more information about this in your Enrichment Book and also in the Enrichment section of the website, including specific tasks for you to complete and information about the specific rewards.

Rest Week

Some weeks there will be nothing going on in the department, generally at the very beginning or very end of certain terms. These weeks are called Rest Weeks.
